Recreation Connection in Partnership with Volunteer Manitoba is pleased to present this 6 part webinar program on Volunteer Management. Each webinar can be attended as standalone sessions, however, participants who attend all 6 sessions will be issued an e-certificate of participation. Please note that the sessions are free for RCM members whilst there is a $10 per session charge for non-members.

1. Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement, May 13th 2020

Volunteers deserve a safe, supportive work environment where they are valued and can make a meaningful contribution. On the other hand, organizations should expect their volunteers to act responsibly, with integrity and respect for the cause. How do you achieve both of these? Volunteer Canada has created the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement (CCVI) to support organizations that engage volunteers. During this webinar, learn the best practices outlined in the Code to improve volunteer involvement.

2. It’s Ok to Turn Them Away: How to Say No to a Volunteer, May 27th 2020

Learn to use volunteer screening best practices and performance management to screen out or let go of volunteers. Learn techniques to deliver a professional message that still preserves the relationship.

3. Volunteer Job Descriptions, June 10th 2020

You need volunteers to do the necessary work to achieve your mission while attracting people with the interests, skills, time and talent to do that work. Clear job descriptions are the foundational documents for risk management, volunteer recruitment, retention, performance management and recognition. Learn how to write job descriptions using job design theory to clearly communicate the expectations you have for your volunteers.

4. Volunteer Intake: Applications, Interviews and Reference Checks, July 8th 2020

A key part of making sure you have the right volunteer for the right job is through application forms, interviews and references. Learn what information you should gather about your potential volunteers to make sure they are the right fit, while also balancing the requirements set out in human rights and privacy legislation.

5. It’s All in the Pitch: Volunteer Recruitment Strategies, August 19th 2020

Different people have different reasons to volunteer. Explore what motivates newcomers, young and the mature demographics, plus the five components of marketing. Combine this knowledge to learn how best to pitch a volunteer opportunity to match the motivations of the particular demographic you are trying to recruit.

6. Creating Connections to Build Retention, September 23rd 2020

Examine the steps to creating a meaningful connection with volunteers, what motivates volunteers, and what factors impact the volunteer's decision to leave the organization.


About the Presenter

Dawn Bourbonnais is Volunteer Manitoba's Manager of Communications & Outreach. She oversees VM's internal and external communications, manages the website and referral services, and is responsible for increasing awareness of Volunteer Manitoba's mission - to encourage and promote volunteerism across the province. She also manages Volunteer Manitoba's social media profiles.

Dawn has also managed volunteers for a many festival and community events held in Winnipeg, and is especially fond of the volunteers at the Jazz Winnipeg Festival.
